Shubhada Varadkar is one of India's foremost Odissi exponents — a performer,
choreographer, writer, and guru who has taken the divine form of Odissi to
transcendental heights. Her dance is a fascinating union of eloquent
expression, graceful movement, and abhinaya of the highest order.
Before devoting herself entirely to Indian classical dance, she was a
professor of Economics at R. R. Ruia College and a newscaster with Mumbai
Doordarshan. The call of the art proved irresistible. She is an ICCR
Empanelled Artist, 'A' Grade National Artist (Doordarshan), and Senior
Fellow of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
Nine productions spanning devotion, feminism, autobiography, and cross-cultural fusion.
